What Does a Nanny Do All Day?
Many of you have an idea of a nanny’s job description, but what really does a nanny do all day?
Generally, a nanny is an important part of the family, and serves as a loving, nurturing, trustworthy companion to the children full or part time, live-in or live out.
A nanny is responsible for the complete care of the child or children of the employer. Duties include providing love and responsive care, and tending to the child’s basic physical needs that include
diapering, feeding, nutrition planning, meal preparation, and helping infants to six months old to help them learn all of their senses. Housekeeping responsibilities are primarily childcare related, unless duties are specified and negotiated differently before the date of hire (more on this in upcoming blogs).
For pre-school or older children, a nanny is responsible for coordinating play activities, transportation and outings, and providing positive discipline, un-distracted attention, help with home-work and intellectual development, as well as emotional and social support.
For working parents who struggle to provide for their children, a nanny is the glue that holds a family together.
A nanny offers the family convenient, personalized care to meet the child or children physical, emotional, social and intellectual needs.
In today’s media-driven society, where children spend too many hours on screen time playing video games, you can help by providing physical, emotional and intellectual support for a child is “supercalifragilisticexpialidocious,” according to Mary Poppins.
Back in the day, when I was a kid, we played outside for so long, our parents had to tell us be on the porch when the street lights came on, or in the house by the evening.
Things have changed since then. You rarely see kids riding bikes, playing games, and enjoy being outside.
It’s time for kids to be kids, and learn social skills by playing and being active, healthy and physically fit.
As a nanny, you can literally be paid to play and fun with kids, and help make the next generation of youth healthier and physically fit.
